Week 7 DVD Trailer

Now i have some knowledge of how to use the Adobe premiere it was time to start off filming for my DVD trailer. I decided to make a dish that is cooked for hours in the slow cooker. It is very simple and easy to make and I wanted to involve some of the steps involved in making it, to show the viewer how easy it is to eat healthily. I know this is opposed to the trailers of home cooking from well-known chefs. They  tend to just talk about it and stand behind a kitchen and don't actually show you what they'll be showing you.
However, after filming several clips and taking some photos of the process, I realized that this one dish took up longer than the 1 minute that I had to work with. This is a severe problem for me as I intended on showing multiple dishes with some stages involved. 19/03/2015.

I decided to first tackle the problem of getting this video down to 1 minute in Adobe premiere, so I created a new project and imported all of the images and clips I needed and neatly arranged them in "Bin" folders to stay organized. I then created a new sequence using file, new sequence as opposed to just dropping a clip in to the sequence bar to create a default sequence. The reason for this is so I could select the widescreen format the assignment requires me to create, I chose "Pal 32Khz WideScreen". I chose this format because I didn't need the higher audio quality as I plan on just using a free-to-use audio clip and use text to display bits of information about the cooking process.

I then began to edit parts of the clips I had filmed to make parts shorter, I used the mark in, mark out function to do this and then inserted these sections in to the main sequence. Of course I did these one by one from start to finish to create the order of how I wanted the sequence to be. I also used three images in this process because it wasn't necessary to film and would save me time to achieve my 1 minute trailer. After I had to edited them all in order I muted the audio track so you couldn't hear any background noise. 21/03/2015

Week 6 DVD Label

I decided against using a white background for my CD cover as it looks quite boring and unprofessional. I've gone with a black textured image (http://pichost.me/1872163/) to use as the background for the CD. I created another circle using the ellipse tool and using the clipping mask tool selecting the contents on the inside of the circle Illustrator cut the background to just be inside the circle. I used this tool so when it comes to printing there won't be any overlap between the DVD and background outside of the circle. 11/03/2015

Week 6 DVD Cover

Firstly, after completing the basic logo for my DVD, I added on to the spine of my cover by firstly resizing the arm in a separate document and then saving the Illustrator image as a medium quality JPEG and then opening it in Photoshop. From here i duplicated the layer in to my DVD case and copied that layer so that there were two arms, one for the top and one for the bottom. I did this because if I just left one at the top, the area underneath the "Live Large" text would look bare.

Upon further observation and peer feedback of my DVD cover, I realised that the image of my bodybuilder on the front cover looked squashed. Using transform tools I quickly elongated the image to make it look more realistic. Also, the pepper pot on the counter was behind "Sergi's" arm. As Sergi was standing behind the counter this looked unrealistic, I simply rearranged the layer with the bodybuilder on a layer before the food counter to put this right. There was another problem with the food counter, the image of the steak and the chopping board seemed to be floating in mid air and there wasn't a drop shadow effect around it as there was with the food counter. I therefore created a touch-up layer and used a 2 pixel brush, selected the color of the counter and brushed along the line of the food counter.I then added a drop shadow effect to the steak image and the effect looked in line and the same as the rest of the food counter.

I added a gradient effect to the back cover. It was originally plain gray. I thought this was too plain so i added a gray/white effect. The initial problem with this gradient is that it made the text underneath the food images unreadable. I therefore changed the text to the same Orange that the title "Live Large" was in, in the front and back cover. This made the text readable all through the gradient. I kept the writing at the darkest point of the gradient white so it stood out more as it's a description of the DVD and needed to be clearest. I also added a "DVD" logo to the bottom right of the back cover - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=DVD+logo&biw=1525&bih=693&noj=1&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=hIr9VLuGGYvfavGHgoAO&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&dpr=0.9#imgdii=_&imgrc=9L6vZ0sLkvWDJM%253A%3BBofbUoSKFY5N0M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.clipartbest.com%252Fcliparts%252FnTE%252FX7b%252FnTEX7bxyc.png%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.clipartbest.com%252Fdvd-logo-images%3B2059%3B2059.
