Week 6 DVD Cover

Firstly, after completing the basic logo for my DVD, I added on to the spine of my cover by firstly resizing the arm in a separate document and then saving the Illustrator image as a medium quality JPEG and then opening it in Photoshop. From here i duplicated the layer in to my DVD case and copied that layer so that there were two arms, one for the top and one for the bottom. I did this because if I just left one at the top, the area underneath the "Live Large" text would look bare.

Upon further observation and peer feedback of my DVD cover, I realised that the image of my bodybuilder on the front cover looked squashed. Using transform tools I quickly elongated the image to make it look more realistic. Also, the pepper pot on the counter was behind "Sergi's" arm. As Sergi was standing behind the counter this looked unrealistic, I simply rearranged the layer with the bodybuilder on a layer before the food counter to put this right. There was another problem with the food counter, the image of the steak and the chopping board seemed to be floating in mid air and there wasn't a drop shadow effect around it as there was with the food counter. I therefore created a touch-up layer and used a 2 pixel brush, selected the color of the counter and brushed along the line of the food counter.I then added a drop shadow effect to the steak image and the effect looked in line and the same as the rest of the food counter.

I added a gradient effect to the back cover. It was originally plain gray. I thought this was too plain so i added a gray/white effect. The initial problem with this gradient is that it made the text underneath the food images unreadable. I therefore changed the text to the same Orange that the title "Live Large" was in, in the front and back cover. This made the text readable all through the gradient. I kept the writing at the darkest point of the gradient white so it stood out more as it's a description of the DVD and needed to be clearest. I also added a "DVD" logo to the bottom right of the back cover - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=DVD+logo&biw=1525&bih=693&noj=1&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=hIr9VLuGGYvfavGHgoAO&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&dpr=0.9#imgdii=_&imgrc=9L6vZ0sLkvWDJM%253A%3BBofbUoSKFY5N0M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.clipartbest.com%252Fcliparts%252FnTE%252FX7b%252FnTEX7bxyc.png%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.clipartbest.com%252Fdvd-logo-images%3B2059%3B2059.
